What is Careerockit? And how do I participate?
One week each year, Greater Omaha region businesses meet the challenge of hosting thousands of career experiences to educate, excite and inspire students and young adults. Businesses and employers can participate in three main ways.
- Host an experience
- Be a Business Champion and recruit other businesses to participate
What is an experience and how can my organization host an experience?
An experience is an activity that exposes participants to a specific career, company or industry. Experience types range from job shadows, which work better for smaller groups or individuals, to tours and activities, which work well for medium to large size groups. Experiences should have clear learning objectives that relate to the job, industry or company that you are showcasing.
Businesses and employers of all sizes and industries can participate by hosting experiences.
Where will experiences take place?
Experiences can take place within the schools or at the business. Some classrooms are restricted from traveling, while other classrooms have the option to travel. Educators will provide details of any travel restrictions they have and businesses will have access to that information.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of experiences I have to host?
There is no minimum or maximum number of experiences you have to host. Consider what type of experience(s) you want to offer and decide on a range. You should also consider how many volunteers will be available to help with the experience(s) and the size of your facility if the experience(s) will be held at your business.
How long does an experience last?
There is no set duration for experiences. The time allotted for an experience should be dictated by the activities the participants will be doing and school day time constraints. Past experiences ranged from two hours to five hours.
After a match has been made, a general time frame will be agreed upon by both parties however detailed time information needs to be confirmed by the educator and employer contacts.
What time of day should my experience be offered?
Businesses have the option to host experiences for the time of day this is most convenient for them; however, you will likely want to offer experiences during a time that classrooms/student groups are able to participate. Educators will provide this information when they sign-up their classroom/student group, and you will have access to view this information.
Do we need give away swag?
No, while you have the option to provide swag you are not obligated.
Am I able to recruit interns by participating in Careerockit?
Yes, we encourage your business to use this opportunity to promote internships and other career opportunities. Please consider the grade and age range for the participants when promoting internships or career opportunities. We also encourage you to promote your career opportunities outside of the class/group of students you host.
If I host experiences at my business, who pays for transportation?
Ideally the school works out transportation via their busing system, however, businesses have the option to pay for transportation costs. If you are interested in paying for transportation please indicate so when you sign up.
What are the sponsorship opportunities, and how do I sign up to be a sponsor?
There are two sponsorship levels: Launch ($7,500) and Blast Off Sponsor ($2,500). For more information, email email@example.com.
What is a Business Champion, and how do I sign up?
